Hi! My name is Reed and I’m a professional gardener, ISA Certified Arborist® (TX-4532A) and artist. I have worked full time in the plant world since 2005, predominantly in Austin, but also in Colorado, Mexico and Japan. I love to learn new things and learn more deeply about old things.

My approach to gardening is an ecological one. This is not from a sense of utopian idealism, but from a long history of seeing that integrated systems founded on healthy soil-biology and proper plant selection are the only ones that really work, costing less in the long-term and requiring less overall maintenance than conventional landscapes that use chemical inputs. I believe that a beautiful and healthy garden benefits the whole world.

An extensive background in gardening and tree care led me to become a Certified Arborist in 2019. Since then I’ve taught classes for TreeFolks for their Urban Forest Stewardship program, attended symposia with other Arborists, and passed the qualification exam to become Oak Wilt Qualified®. My main interests with regard to Arboriculture are in education, consultation, planting and soil health. I am able to perform a variety of ground-based tree care operations.

As an artist, I am more interested in the Eternal than the topical. I love design and craftsmanship and pay close attention to even small details of my creations. I want to do right to the planet by respecting the materials that I use to make art and for that matter, landscapes or any building project. My belief is that by respecting and using the best materials, the best product is almost guaranteed to emerge.

I am grateful in that I love what I do for a living and the line between work and play is somewhat blurred for me. I consider my extracurricular activities and travels vital for the way they inform my livelihood and make the service I offer unique. If you would like to talk with me about my services or art, please get in touch using the form below.
